Os rituais de reza podem durar horas ou dias e ser realizados com ou sem o auxílio de acessórios, banhos, fumigação e remédios à base de ervas. Algumas rezadeiras e médiuns curandeiros realizam rituais com o auxílio de ramos de plantas, principalmente a vassourinha (Scoparia dulcis L. - Scrophulariaceae), que são sacudidos sobre a cabeça, o corpo e as áreas afetadas do paciente, às vezes tocando-os.
